11st June 2019

The alarm clock was not forgiving and at 4:30 it did its job. Down from the bed there is so much to do today. I pick up Douchet and go to Arodiyo Mandimu village. It is dark and very cold and when we get to the village we still find him asleep. Furthermore, the children were sleeping outside near the drill truck that we had left halfway through last night. Because? To make sure no one stole that precious four-wheeler! Cute. We unload the pipes and we return to Balaka to fill up the sand that we will need later. Meanwhile, the gang starts to work. And it takes almost 5 hours to finally see the water come out. In the meantime, the same children who had spent the night outdoors design the new Fuji X-T2710. They see a gopro and immediately make a model with mud that is amazing!
And immediately afterwards here is the water! And one is gone! We can breathe the first sigh of relief. Just the time for a sandwich and off to today’s second village. Chipote, about fifty families, 400 people.
Luck had an outstanding account with us and today he has paid off. The auger goes down like a blade in butter and in two hours we can turn off the engine because we find a rich and clean aquifer. And there are two today!
In both villages women are the happiest and loudest. How many kilometers less will they have to do now …
Tonight to celebrate I promised a beer after dinner to the gang of wells. Probably tomorrow I will regret it because for them the concept of “one” beer is somewhat approximate and the risk of hangover is almost a certainty. But luckily tomorrow we start late because we have to wait for material from Blantyre that will not arrive before noon.
Malawi, today we are equal. Tomorrow we start again.
