11st June 2018

It must have been a day of almost rest and instead it ended up working late with the darkness of Malawi that enveloped us.
This morning some activities were scheduled at Agostino’s kindergarten but as we went there the Indian called us saying that the auger is coming to Balaka. We had lost hope with his promises as a sailor. We turn the car and wait for the truck on the road, savoring all the African slowness (almost two hours of waiting) and jumping into the past when there were no mobile phones. The appointment was at one place and there we had to wait because they didn’t know the way and there was no way to explain it to him. However, calmly, they arrive, we fill the truck with diesel fuel (€ 350 !!!) and off we go to a new village.
This time it is a huge village, perhaps the largest I have seen since I am in Malawi. We start the work around 11 and don’t stop until 19 when the headlights of the pick up illuminate the scene. 8 hours with a thousand problems, not least a headache of mine that had not been seen for some time and that knocked me out for an hour lying in the jeep 😞
The digging was difficult, we used a thousand tricks to solve the problems,
however the important thing is that we found water, a lot, a lot! Another well is gone!
The promise for tomorrow was to make another well in the Nsanama area. But the bad surprise comes in the dark. They warn me that tomorrow and until Friday we will not have the drill, already working on other wells. The call I made to the Indian was not the most pleasant one. I was angry and he tried to calm me with a thousand explanations. But the substance has not changed: no auger for tomorrow.
Time is running out and the days are running out, tomorrow we will try to find an alternative to do well in Nsanama as well. Malawi, I’m angry tonight.
