On Sunday it’s the rest day, but not for Il Pozzo dei Desideri! Wake up earlier than usual because before continuing with the other inaugurations Agostino had been called to go and repair a well built a few months ago (not by us) to which an auction had been broken for pumping water. Repair quite simple but necessary to make it work again. These repairs, among other things, are those that we guarantee to all the wells that we build during the project and allow a long life to them. Fortunately, only a few have been needed in recent years.
After the repair immediately in the direction of the village of Ngalitche they were waiting for us from 9 but we arrived a little late. Kamanga for the first time since I know him gets distracted for a moment and misses the way. Kamanga … 😉
Anyway we come and it’s a big party. Yesterday’s theater is missing but that was an exceptional event. They are all there and I am the dispenser of showers. The village chief and the oldest woman in the village: these were my prey today. Caught!
Nothing is missing: there is joy, there are institutional speeches and there are gifts. Again we were overwhelmed with food and they were filled with clothes.
In the afternoon we head to Kalimanjira and we knew that the party was at risk. The well does not draw all the water it should. After 6-7 buckets (about 150 liters) you have to let it rest for it to fill again. We tried to lengthen the draft but nothing to do. The main reason should be that the fixative we used during the excavations is blocking most of the water. We will make one last attempt by trying with a solution that will dissolve the fixative. If not, the Indian should make us a new well to replace this which is halfway up. Obviously the party was canceled.
The day ends by returning to the village of Kanyumba Yaisa, inaugurated yesterday, where with a plaque and a thought we dedicate the well to Paolo, the father of my friend Riccardo, who recently passed away. A memory that starts from Italy and stops here, in the warm heart of Africa.
