Party was supposed to be and party was. Two inaugurations. The villagers were ready, the wells too. All beautiful dressed up for the inaugural cut. Women dressed up, village chiefs in their most beautiful dress and even music (powered by solar panels).
And for us the chairs of honour in the shade to enjoy the show.
These parties are always special. There are endless speeches of thanks from the village chief and one or two women who explain how this well will change their lives forever, alleviating daily difficulties and allowing everyone to drink clean water.
As per tradition, both village chiefs obviously had to pay a pledge by going under my hands and undergoing a freezing shower!
And as always the gifts have submerged our jeep: wheat, tomatoes, eggs, nandolo, firewood and the inevitable hens!
At the same time, I gave them the clothes I had collected in the past weeks from the various friends in Italy. All lined up “diligently” to get something. I take this opportunity to thank everyone who gave me something.
And in the end a beautiful surprise from the second village: a theatrical performance! Title of the show: water is life.
Very funny scene of a husband waiting for his wife who went to the nearest village to get water. On her return he is furious because he thinks that instead of going to get water she actually went to have fun with other men. Whereupon the fight starts with everyone stopping the furious husband who wants to lead his wife. Furious Lite who is appeased by the village sage who says: “This village does not have a well and we cannot allow these fights to happen again. Let’s go to Agostino and Matteo to ask if they build a well in the village so husband and wife will no longer fight. ” Curtain. Applause!!!
Thanks also for this Malawi.
