4th June 2018

Even today a day always around but without the anxiety of having to find water. Today, in fact no drill and for this we still have not found a solution.
In the morning we thought of Agostino’s kindergarten by going to buy some food for the children and then we went to see how the work proceeded in Kanyumbaaka where we had brought the cement and Myia, the bricklayer, was already at work. By tomorrow the basement should be finished.
In the afternoon we went to a village about 60 kilometers from Balaka, near Nsanama. During the trip to come there I met Sister Giusy, the sister of Ilaria whom I met in Mangochi in 2014, and having learned of the Pozzo dei Desideri project. She makes me aware about a village that was very bad in terms of access to water. I promised her that I would do what I could, without being able to guarantee anything. Meanwhile, today I went to see the conditions of the village. Well what to say: they collect water from a couple of wells dug by hand about 6 meters deep and from a nearby pool. The problem is that the water is stagnant, dirty and little and also this water is that of the rainy season and more or less from July onwards it will be over and will not return until next year.
We didn’t promise anything to the village because now we have to find someone who can dig the well. We are considering some alternatives.
I contacted a person in Blantyre but he wants to get paid in advance. And that’s not a good sign. And we are waiting for news from Mozambique about the availability of another drill. We will see, for the moment I enjoy an evening of clear and starry sky as only from in the middle of the sea can you admire. Thanks Malawi.
