The day in Monkey Bay was longer than expected. The plan to do the well and return to Balaka in a day was optimistic and we had to stop and sleep in Monkey Bay. Aside from not having anything with us, the biggest annoyance is that we couldn’t find the water. After 20 meters of excavations the road seemed to be downhill because we had found some water but immediately afterwards here is the damned rock waiting for us: solid, hard, impenetrable. For the next 20 meters it took us more than three hours without finding a drop anymore. At 40 meters we stopped for the dark (and also because the team was still drunk from the hangover they took yesterday evening! In the photo one of the veterans who slept while the others worked …) We will resume work tomorrow morning to try to reach 55 meters with the hope of finding water. The fact is that the aquifer to be found must be good because in one or two years it must serve to feed the entire Modalitso of Solidali nutritional center for Malawi. We cannot be satisfied with the little water found at 20 meters. If we don’t find it, it’s a real mess because, unlike the villages, we can’t find another one here. Malawi, you have to think about it tomorrow, we’ve run out of ideas.
