15th June 2017

What a day! We never stopped from 6 until 21:30 … but it was worth it! This morning the promises of the Indian Jussab were promptly rejected and therefore no new probe. Then we started to repair an old one, thanks to Agostino’s incredible lathe skills! It went away all morning but we brought home the result and only then did the Indian start the new pipes from Blantyre to replace those left underground yesterday. We started digging in a village near Toleza but then we had to stop because the pipes never came. When the truck finally arrived, we finished the job and found the much needed water !!! Parties, songs and dances but then there was not a minute to lose, it was getting dark (here around 6PM) and we had to make up for lost time. The cheerful party moved to the village of Rabissonni and we dug our first well at night! What an emotion! Dark pitch, starry sky as only in Malawi, women’s songs, drill motor in the background and…. more water !!! Today two out of two !!! With the jeep headlights illuminating the new well we celebrated and danced with the whole village that was mad with joy. Mission accomplished! All this night works has been done to try to complete the goals we had set ourselves this year and the missing piece is now only the well to be dug in Monkey Bay for the nascent Solidali Nutritional Center for Malawi. Tomorrow the band of wells is divided: Kamanga will remain in Balaka for the masonry work of the wells built so far and I will go with Agostino to Monkey Bay, about two hours from Balaka. Another busy day is waiting for us. Malawi, today you destroyed me but you repaid me for everything.
