17th June 2016

Now where we pass we always make a hole … in the water! In the face of Friday 17, today another spectacular day! Still 13 hours to work around Balaka but it was worth it. This morning the confirmation that the work last night gave the expected results and therefore also the well at the hospital for maternity and pediatrics is done. We immediately left for Chimtendere (the village of the lady who had waited for me all day the other day) to see if they actually needed it. Well I would certainly say yes, 56 families who take water from a 3-4 meters hole inside which there was something that everything could be except water … but they still drank it. When the lady saw me she didn’t believe it and I let you imagine the happiness. I give the go ahead for this village and in less than 4 hours we find water.
In the meantime, even today there has been word of mouth and a procession of people asking for a well in their village. One had intrigued me and I wanted to follow him. He told us that there were about thirty families, without water, etc … We go up to the pick-up to go and see the situation while the team continued to drill. We take an incredible ride with the car, streets, detours until we reach the village. At the beginning there were only a couple of houses, so I told him that these were not the agreements … then he tells me that there are many others, but they are inward. “Ok, let me see them” and so I follow him. Walk, walk and after a while I begin to hear the sound of the auger, I look up and I see it not far away! Basically this village was 200 meters far from where we were digging … The sly man did like the taxi drivers of a city you don’t know, all the way around to take you around the corner!
Oh well, I smiled at him … he tried.
Before leaving the village of the well, I shook several hands like a minister at the inauguration of a public work!
It was three o’clock, mission impossible to try to make the second well today. The village is called Nchembele, 52 families. The team is now run in and before sunset we found the water and then finished all the work around 7PM, in total darkness, indeed no light, today it is almost full moon … There was the right light for the atmosphere. We are at six Pozzi dei Desideri!!! Incredible, beyond the best expectations. The negotiation with the Indian head of the auger has been tightened, and is not yet finished, but tomorrow we should even be able to make the seventh well! I’m speechless … So even one beer is deserved tonight and good night!
