As expected, today I wake up very early to return to the village and try to dig a new hole. Unfortunately, this second attempt also failed, no water after tens of meters dug. So much disappointment for us but above all for the people of the village who saw their great dream vanish. Unfortunately we cannot build a well there. At that point it occurred to my friend Agostino that about a year and a half ago a village not far away had asked him for a well and so we went to see it to understand and see the real need in this case too.
About 50 families live in this village and are more than two km away from the first available well.
Tomorrow we will try to build the first of our wells here in the hope, finally, of finding the much desired water.
Our goal does not change, to build two wells in Malawi even if the two villages I initially identified have changed.
The appointment is early tomorrow to begin the excavations. Fingers crossed!
Meanwhile, in the afternoon, to raise moral and find some optimism, Agostino completed the drilling of another well (financed by an association) which he had interrupted due to technical problems a few weeks ago. The emotion of seeing the water that comes out combined with the joy of the children who, perhaps for the first time, were taking a shower with running water was priceless!
We hope to live it again tomorrow!
